About Canakrn
Built from the player’s side of the table.
Canakrn started as a way to keep a community together. Six years on, it produces esports events for festivals, colleges and conventions across Alberta, and still runs every one of them like a player would want.

The story
A 70-person bracket that never stopped growing.
Canakrn was founded in 2020, in the early stages of COVID-19, with a simple goal: keep local gaming communities connected through online tournaments while in-person events were paused. It grew out of a passion for competitive gaming, with a founder who has spent years as a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate competitor and community member.
When in-person gatherings were allowed to resume, Canakrn hosted its first offline tournament on July 31, 2021, to help rebuild grassroots scenes that had lost access to their usual venues and events. That first event drew 70 people.
What began as a small community tournament has grown into an esports event production company supporting gaming experiences of every size: grassroots brackets, college-hosted tournaments, a province-wide league and festival activations reaching thousands of attendees.
Through all of it, the focus hasn't changed: create accessible, memorable gaming experiences while supporting the communities, organizers and events that make them possible.

What sets Canakrn apart
Why organizers keep calling back.
A player’s perspective
Canakrn is built by a community member and long-time Super Smash Bros. Ultimate competitor, not just an event organizer. The details players notice are the details we plan for.
Grassroots to festival scale
Experience across both community esports and large public events means Canakrn adapts to different audiences, venues and event environments without losing the plot.
Accessible by design
We care about affordable opportunities for players, attendees and organizations to experience gaming in meaningful ways. Great events shouldn’t be gated.
